Ooty Tour
Introduction
Ooty is the main town of the Nilgiri district and is popularly known as the
"Queen of the Hill Stations". It is about 105 km away from
Coimbatore and also prides itself on having the highest peak of the region,
Dodabetta which is 2623 meters high. Another aspect of Ooty which has made
it famous is the presence of numerous tea estates here. It has everything
that a tourist looks for in a hill station, be they lofty mountains, thick
forests, sprawling grasslands and vast stretches of tea gardens.
Tourist Attractions of Ooty
» Botanical Gardens : Established in the year 1847,
this 22 hectare picturesque garden is maintained by the Horticultural
Department of the state. There are about 650 flora species that are being
nurtured in this garden. There is a fossil of a tree here as well, which is
believed to be more than 20 million years old. The place also hosts the
annual summer festival in May in which various flower shows and various
cultural programmes are held to showcase the whole range of repertoire of
the botanical gardens and the local people.
» St. Stephen's Church : This is among the oldest
churches in the Nilgiris and is located on the Mysore road. It was in the
early nineteenth century that the need for an exclusive church for the
British people was felt by the then governor of Madras and thus began the
construction of St Stephen's church.
» Horse Riding : Ooty is known as the Queen
of hill stations among the tourists. The place, it seems, is
exclusively designed to keep the people outdoors. The favourite tourists'
hangouts are Botanical Garden, Ooty lake and many other such places where
you can enjoy the most while riding on a horse back. The facilities for
these horse rides are easily available.
» Kalhatty Falls : These are located on the Kalhatty
slopes, about 13 km away from Ooty. The waters here make their way from the

Situated in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu, Kodaikanal is a tranquil hill
resort for the summer weary tourists. It is a place of great antiquity, the
place finds mention in the ancient Sangam literature as well. It was
established as a hill station by the British who used to escape to this
place to get away from the heat and dust of the cities. The place is almost
packed to the hilt with beautiful destinations.

is a beautiful place for your picnics with your family and friends. Another
famous lake here is the Kodaikanal lake which is spread over an area of more
